Cambridge Public Library
District
Renovation Project
The Gruey Memorial Library that houses the Cambridge Public Library District has a rich history. The cornerstone was laid in 1928, and the library officially opened in 1929. An addition to add office space and an elevator was put on in the 1990s. However, no other major updates have occurred and the library is in need of some repairs and renovations. We are raising money for the following needed projects:
-
Replacing the original roof from 1929 on the main part of the building
-
Replacing the carpeting, which is mostly from the 1980s
-
Repainting the main part of the library's interior walls
-
Replacing the black-out shades from the 1960s with light filtering shades to increase the lighting in the library
-
Replacing the children's book shelving with lower, front-facing shelving that they can better reach.
-
Repairing meeting room walls
